This tour will explore the historic Civic District with its beautiful and impressive colonial buildings - including the Fullerton Building (the old General Post Office), the National Gallery (former Supreme Court & City Hall buildings), the Asian Civilisations Museum, the Victoria Concert Hall & Theatre and the Arts House (the old Parliament building).
Tuesday July 25's Discovery Walk - Civic District
You will learn about why, how and when Sir Stamford Raffles arrived in this sparely populated island in January 1819 to set up a trading post on behalf of the East India Company, his vision for its future and how he devised an early city plan.
You will also cross Cavenagh Bridge, the only suspension bridge in Singapore, made with strong Scottish steel. From there, you will learn about the importance of the Singapore River in our country's trading history.
These walking tours will have a maximum of 10 participants but also need a minimum number of 7 to go ahead; if we don't have enough people we will inform those who have registered (& refund their payment) by the evening before at the very latest. But we hope they will always run!!
Please note that the cost of these tours is a little higher as we are keeping the number small. The quality will be however very high; see comments below from our last one at the end of January which was a prototype for this new series:
"I would like to thank you for the tour yesterday, it’s been a wonderful morning! Your guide is amazing and so expert about history".
"I just wanted to let you know that my aunt had a brilliant time yesterday. She couldn't say enough about the tour and how great your guide was. Thanks so much! I will certainly recommend you".
